I have stopped Googling

AI tools

OpenAI has just launched #SearchGPT, and I think this changes everything. You can join the waiting list here: https://chatgpt.com/search. Want to see the prototype first? Take a look here: https://chatgpt.com/search

But is this really a game changer? I genuinely think so. Looking at my own search behaviour, I have almost completely stopped using Google since I started using https://www.perplexity.ai/. Of course I still use Google Maps, and now and then I look something up on my phone, but let us be honest: why would you fight your way through pages of sponsored links and adverts when you can get the answer directly?

I have stopped Googling. 🚀 Game changer alert 🚀

With SearchGPT we have a completely new way of finding information within reach. Where traditional search engines like Google focus on showing a long list of links, filtered by algorithms and full of adverts, SearchGPT takes an entirely different approach. It gives you direct answers, tailored to your question, without having to scroll through endless pages of irrelevant information first.

Perplexity vs Google

OpenAI vs Google

What makes SearchGPT different?

First: the focus is on understanding your question. Thanks to AI, SearchGPT can grasp not only the keywords in your search but the intent behind them. That means you get an answer faster and more accurately, without having to translate what you actually mean into "Google language".

On top of that, SearchGPT is not filled with adverts. As a user you get a clean experience in which the information you are looking for takes centre stage, not the commercial interests of advertisers. That means fewer distractions and a far more trustworthy answer. No hidden agendas, no hidden advertising, just the information you need.

Reflecting on my own search behaviour

Looking at my own experience, there is a clear shift. Since I started using https://www.perplexity.ai/, I have become far more efficient at finding what I am looking for. Where I used to get stuck in a maze of sponsored results, Perplexity, and soon SearchGPT, gives me clear answers straight away. It almost feels like a personal assistant that understands your questions and gives you exactly what you need.

I still use Google for specific things, such as Maps for navigation, and occasionally for something small on my phone. But the number of times I use Google for "real" searches has dropped dramatically. And I expect that will be the case for many people once they experience the power of AI-driven search.

What is so good about Perplexity, and soon SearchGPT?

Here are a few things I personally love about Perplexity, and soon about SearchGPT too:

  • No adverts: no distracting and sometimes misleading ads. Straight to the point.

  • Clear sourcing: Perplexity always shows where the information came from. That builds trust and lets you dig deeper yourself if you want to.

  • It understands context: this is where the real power sits. Whether you ask something specific or search more broadly, the context is understood and the answer fits.

  • Searching video: another big advantage is being able to search video content, so you can find the relevant clip or explanation without watching an entire video.

What does this mean for businesses?

This development does not only affect our personal lives; it also opens up enormous opportunities for businesses. Imagine this: instead of spending weeks on market research or competitor analysis, AI-driven search can give you insights based on current data straight away. That saves time and means you make decisions on better information.

Being able to find content quickly and effectively also makes it easier to optimise marketing strategies, understand customers better and build more relevant campaigns. That is an advantage not only for large companies with substantial marketing budgets, but especially for smaller businesses that have to be smart with their resources.
